Akufo-Addo cannot be trusted to deliver Agenda 111-Agbana

Deputy National Youth Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) Eric Edem Agbana, has stated that President Akufo-Addo and his government cannot be trusted to deliver on his promise to build 111 district hospitals around the country.

He criticized the government for creating a new secretariat with its logo and personnel for the project when the Ministry of Health (MoH) is available to perform the same functions.

Mr Agbana said that the pomp and pageantry associated with the initiative, as with all the unsuccessful initiatives outdoored by the President such as the Nations Builders Corps (NABCO) and many others shows that his government has no vision for the project to completion.

He said the government announces that the cost of the 111 district hospitals will be about $17 million but starting with a seed capital of GHC100 million without pointing out a clear source of funds to see the agenda to fruition smacks of lack of due diligence towards the project.

Mr Agbana said what the government is seeking to do is to come up with political ‘gimmicks’ to pacify the Ghanaian populace with beautiful promises because they know the citizenry has been against them for a while for their bad governance.

He made these remarks in an interview with Johnnie Hughes on the New Day show on TV3, Tuesday, August 17

.Mr Agbana was reacting on the heels of President Akufo-Addo breaking the ground to commence “Agenda 111” which is in keeping with the President’s promise to construct some 88 district hospitals across the country in his 8th COVID-19 address to the nation in April 2020.

“We don’t trust the President, he cannot be trusted. President Akufo-Addo cannot be trusted when it comes to executing this agenda”, he charged.

“Another issue is that you have the Ministry of Health, Works and Housing and all the ministries. Since time immemorial we have been building hospitals, do you have to set up a new secretariat, a new bureaucracy to have their logo designed for people working in the Agenda 111 office?

“Do you have to set up a bureaucracy to begin the construction of hospitals? Imagine ex President Mahama decided that between 2013 and 2017 he will set up new bureaucracies, new offices for all the projects he was embarking on, how many offices would he have created?” Agbana quizzed on the New Day show.
